Kinkaku-ji (The Golden Pavilion)

위쪽 두 층이 진짜 금박으로 덮여 앞뜰 연못에 그대로 비치는 선종 사찰 누각 — 1950년 방화로 14세기에 지어진 원래 건물이 소실된 뒤, 같은 설계 그대로 1955년에 재건되었다. 일본에서 가장 널리 알려진 건축물 중 하나다.

Admission is around ¥500 (cash only: no cards, and no ATMs nearby, so carry yen). You view the pavilion from a set path around the pond; going inside isn't permitted. It's open every day of the year, 9:00–17:00, with no closures for weather or holidays. The trade-off is that it's rarely uncrowded, so early morning is the best chance of a clear photo.
