About Todokyoto
Last updated: 18 September 2026
Todokyoto is an independent cultural travel guide to Kyoto. It covers landmarks, museums, restaurants, nightlife and activities, and has a free itinerary planner. This page explains how it's put together: how venues are chosen, how facts get checked, and what keeps a guide's information from going stale.
A smaller, checked list rather than a padded one
The site covers 22 venues across five categories and seven neighbourhoods. That is deliberately fewer than sites that list hundreds of places with copy-pasted or AI-generated descriptions. Each venue's opening hours, admission price, and address were checked individually before being added, rather than guessed or scraped from an unverified source. A shorter, accurate list is more useful for planning a real visit than a long one you can't trust.
How guides are written
Every guide on this site (the itineraries, the neighbourhood profiles, the seasonal guides) is written as editorial content: researched, checked against public sources, and written to be useful for planning a trip, not to hit a word count. Guides are revised when something about Kyoto changes (a venue's hours, a new season's festival dates) rather than left untouched indefinitely.
Keeping opening hours current
Stale opening hours are one of the most common ways a travel site fails its reader. A "verified" fact from months ago can put someone outside locked doors. Todokyoto runs a weekly automated refresh of opening-hours data against live sources, so the times shown for a venue reflect a recent check rather than a one-time entry from when the guide was first published.
How the site makes money
Some booking and ticket links on this site are affiliate links, and using one may earn the site a small commission at no extra cost to you. That relationship never decides which venues are covered or how they're described. See the Terms & Affiliate Disclosure page for the full breakdown of which providers are involved and how bookings work.
What this site doesn't claim to be
This isn't a crowd-sourced review aggregator, and it isn't trying to cover every restaurant or bar in Kyoto. It's a short, opinionated selection. Facts (hours, prices, addresses) are checked; recommendations and descriptions are editorial judgement, not a guarantee that a place will suit everyone. Always confirm time-sensitive details directly with a venue before you travel; see the Terms page for the full disclaimer.
